Mangalore, 23rd November 2024 – Evolve A Women Entrepreneur Association proudly marked its 4th anniversary with the launch of Hidden Gems 2024, an exciting new initiative designed to celebrate and honour exceptional women entrepreneurs in Mangalore. The event, held at Ajantha Business Centre, Bejai, was a true reflection of the association’s commitment to promoting entrepreneurial excellence, women empowerment, and social responsibility.

The event began at 10.00 AM with a warm welcome from the association’s president Ms Raksha Bhat, who addressed the audience, including members, guests, and social media influencers. The emcee for the event was Ms. Deepthi Prabhu, the joint secretary of Evolve, who guided the event with her charm and poise.

The event also welcomed Dr. Deepak Shedde, a renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, as the chief guest. His presence highlighted the importance of women’s health, particularly menstrual hygiene, a cause that Evolve has actively supported. Alongside him was Mr. Walter Dsouza Nandalike, Founder of Daijiworld Group of Media, Entrepreneur, Journalist, TV anchor, and actor. His presence added a special touch to the celebrations.

The event proceeded with the core ceremony—honouring Ms. Prameela Rao, Honorary Managing Trustee of Kalpa Trust (R), for her invaluable contributions to promoting menstrual hygiene and restoring dignity to women. On behalf of the members of Evolve, past and present presidents and office bearers presented Ms.Prameela Rao with a cheque for a small contribution raised by Evolve’s members. In her speech, Ms.Rao expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the recognition and the generous contribution from the association. She spoke about the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensuring that women, especially in rural areas, have access to the necessary resources for maintaining proper hygiene.

About Ms. Prameela Rao
Ms. Prameela Rao is an esteemed educator and social activist who has dedicated her life to empowering women and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. She is an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at Canara First Grade College, Mangalore, and currently on deputation to Government First Grade College, Kavoor. Ms. Rao is also the Honorary Managing Trustee of Kalpa Trust (R), an NGO known for its extensive work in uplifting underprivileged communities.

Her significant contributions extend to various social causes, particularly her work in promoting menstrual hygiene. Ms. Rao is also a Trustee of Seva Bharati, an NGO dedicated to supporting special children. She has been featured in two documentaries, Padwoman and Meet Mangalore’s Padwoman, which were uploaded on YouTube to raise awareness about menstrual health. Her research interests have also led her to lead projects like the BIRAC-funded initiative to develop adult diapers with disease indicators for the elderly. Furthermore, Ms. Rao has worked tirelessly as a former nodal officer for Kokkada and Koila day-care centers for Endosulfan victims and has supported the rehabilitation of the Malekudiya tribe in Karnataka.

Kalpa Trust’s Social Impact
Kalpa Trust, founded by Ms. Prameela Rao, is a remarkable organization that has touched the lives of over 25,000 people across 21 villages in seven districts and two states. The Trust’s initiatives are diverse and impactful, ranging from providing educational support to underprivileged children to campaigning for the rights of indigenous tribes like the Malekudiyas in Kudremukh National Park.
